The Black Meteors’ Management Committee Chairman, Frederick Acheampong, has confirmed the dissolution of the technical and playing body following its poor showing in the ongoing AFCON U23 tournament.
The team failed to deliver its mandate of securing an Olympic ticket to Paris after finishing 3rd with 4 points in a group they had been hotly tipped to qualify from alongside, Morocco, Guinea, and Congo.

The Black Meteors team opened their account with a 3-2 win over Congo, lost miserably to Morocco, and drew to Guinea in the game they should have won to qualify for the semi-finals.
In a recent media interview with 3sports, he opened up about the team’s disastrous campaign in the AFCON U23 tournament.
According to him, the team failed to deliver on its set targets for the tournament, hence the drastic dissolution of the technical team and the playing body.
“This team was put together to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and we failed to qualify so obviously, it will be dissolved,”
“If Executive Council will discuss and consider another appointment or want the coach to continue, that will be in the powers of the Executive Council. I am not in the position to say whether they will continue or not because I don’t make the appointment in terms of the national teams. It is the decision of the Executive Council.
“The team stands dissolved because we failed to qualify for the Olympic Games and we don’t have any tournaments coming up next year,” he added.
The Black Meteors will have to wait for another four years to secure a ticket for the Olympic game.
