REVIEW: Performance of Ghanaian players abroad; Tetteh sent off, Semenyo continues scoring form

This weekend, some Ghanaian players got a fair taste of game action at their various European and beyond clubs.



In this piece, I look at some of these players across the English Premier League, English Championship, Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1, Serie A, Dutch Eredivisie, Belgium Jupiler Pro League, and others.

Thomas Partey anchored Arsenal from midfield as they beat ManUtd at the Emirates by 3-2. 

Salisu Mohammed lasted the entire duration for Southampton at home as they fell to Aston Villa by a goal to nil.

Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp were both involved in Crystal Palace’s goalless draw game with Newcastle United.



Daniel Amartey’s Leicester City couldn’t hold to victory as they shared the spoils with Tariq Lamptey, who got 13 minutes under his belt for Brighton at the King Power Stadium. 

Antoine Semenyo gave his suitors more reason to fast-track a deal for him with an enviable performance as he rescued a point for his side at home against Blackburn Rovers at the Ashton Gate Stadium. 

Albert Adomah of QPR got a few minutes to help his side bag a draw to Swansea.

Benjamin Tetteh was dismissed in the 84th minute following an altercation with Oli McBurne which saw Hull lose to Sheffield United by a goal to nil. 

Ghanaian duo, Baba Rahman and Andy Yiadom were both in action for Reading, who were mauled at the Britannia by Stoke City by four goals to nil.  



In the German Bundesliga, which returned to action following the World Cup break saw Daniel Kofi Kyereh last for 70 minutes but couldn’t save his Freiburg from being devoured by Wolfsburg by 6-0 at the Volkswagen Arena.  

In the Spanish top flight, Joseph Aidoo played the full throttle of the game as his Celta Vigo side fell away to Mallorca. 

Inaki Williams lasted 90 minutes for Athletic Bilbao who were mauled by Real Madrid.

Abdul Salis Ahmed’s RC Lens continued their dominant display in the French Ligue 1 as they bagged yet another victory at home to Gideon Mensah’s Auxerre.

19-year Ibrahim Sulemana helped his Verona side to a crucial win over 14th-placed Lecce in the Serie A.



 Mohammed Kudus played as Ajax’s focal point of attack as he helped his side pull off a 1-1 draw with table toppers, Feyenoord in a hot contest game.

Zakaria Mugeese came off the bench to seal Ashdod’s win over Hapoel Hadera in the Israeli top-flight league.
