Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh hinted that Stephen Amankona should learn from players who have decided to adapt to his playing style at the club.
“You can force a horse to the riverside, but you can’t force him to drink” was the phrase Prosper Narteh used to describe the current situation with Stephen Amankona at the club.
Stephen Amankona joined Asante Kotoko from Berekum Chelsea at the beginning of the season but has struggled to cement his spot in the first team under Prosper Narteh.
The forward scored 10 goals in 28 games for Berekum Chelsea last season but Prosper Narteh made it clear that he doesn’t “believe in names” and compared the player’s situation with Richard Boadu’s.
“The structures are there, but it is up to him (Stephen Amankona) to up his game, once you up your game; you play”
“If you have observed my team, I don’t believe in names; Agadas (Richard Boadu) was on the bench, and I remember having a one-on-one conversation with him”
“He (Richard Boadu) asked me why he wasn’t playing I told him he wasn’t doing the right things; you don’t want to go with the principles in my game model, you want to by the old way of playing so you don’t fit in” he added.
Prosper Narteh earlier stated that Stephen Amankona is not playing at a level that befits a player of Asante Kotoko and urged him to step up and start performing well.
