Black Queens Coach Bashir Hayford stated that he and his Black Queens are ready for the challenge of hosting and winning the AWCON which kicks off tomorrow.
He was speaking at the press conference ahead of the tournament on Friday. “We have these twin words, ‘host and win’, and we have prepared well to that.” he said.
“We have a huge responsibility to qualify for the world cup first of all and to win it at home “We will give our spectators beautiful football”
The Black Queens will play with Algeria in the first game on Friday and the coach stated their eagerness to start off on a good note. “We’ve picked up in our preparations gradually and I think we are very ready for our game against Algeria”

“We are trying to write history for the Queens and for every Ghanaian. It will raise my status as well if we are able to win it. “If I get to win an international trophy like this before I retire, it will be amazing” he added.
The Captain of the side Elizabeth Addo also acknowledged the amount of pressure on them to host and win this tournament but urged that it be taken game by game since that would somewhat ease the pressure. “Sometimes Ghanaians have to take it easy. There’s pressure to host and win but we need to take it game by game”
She also added that the support of the fans would prove immense and encouraged all Ghanaians to troupe the stadium to cheer them on. “If we get support like Cameroon did when they hosted 2 years ago, I think we can do something”

The coach eneded with a joke on how he had always wanted to be a pilot and that piloting the Queens in this tournament was a realization of thosw dreams of his. “When I was younger I told my father I wanted to be a pilot when I grew up. And now I’m here piloting Ghana in the women’s AFCON. Dreams do come true”
It is a bumper weekend of Ghana Football As Ghana Black Maidens take on Finland on Friday before the Black Queens host Algeria and finally Black stars take on Ethiopia on Sunday.
