Hearts of Oak needed a last-minute goal from Martin Karikari to pick their first win in six games against Bechem United in a feisty encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.
The Phobians were looking to break a trend of bad results in the league which had seen them winless in six games.
Coach Abdul Rahim Bashiru was quick to effect some changes to his lineup, Richard Attah was handed a starting berth in the post, and Kofi Agbesimah partnered Thomas Wimini in defense flanked by Michael Ampadu and Dennis Korsah on the right and full-back positions.

Abdul Nurudeen captained and formed a fulcrum in midfield with Congolese tireless midfield gem, Glid Otanga, Ramos Kashala, and Cisse Kassim given the mandate of leading the attack.
Kobby Mensah also named a strong berth which saw, Clinton Duodu, Sammy Kufuor, Emmanuel Avornyo and Annor, Francis Acquah, and goalkeeper and captain, Dari Aziz.
Hearts of Oak failed to make the most of their opportunities in the first half as the game ended goalless.
The Hunters had a series of chances through Clinton Duodu, Emmanuel Avornyo, and Annor but for some poor finishing failed and a good reflex save from Richard Attah aided the Phobians.

The Oak boys laughed last as Martin Karikari scored from a pass from Salifu Ibrahim, who missed an earlier penalty to give the Phobians a win to end the first-round campaign.
