Lothar Matthäus has disclosed that the GFA approached him for Black Stars coaching role in the past
Lothar Matthäus, the renowned German football icon, has disclosed that he was approached by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to consider coaching the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, between 2005 and 2006.
Matthäus made this revelation on Tuesday after being introduced as a new co-owner of Accra Lions, a club in the Ghana Premier League.
During an interview with 3Sports, Matthäus provided further information about his interaction with Ghana regarding the coaching position.

He stated, “Around 2005 and 2006, Ghana approached me about the coaching role. We had discussions, but for some reason, the final stages of the negotiations did not work out.”
“It’s possible that they had multiple candidates under consideration, and I may have been one of them.”
Despite not ultimately securing the coaching position, the former World Cup champion has maintained a positive relationship with Ghana.
To demonstrate his bond with the country, Matthäus has decided to invest in Accra Lions, a decision that has received widespread acclaim. The official announcement of his partnership role occurred at Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
