Kwesi Appiah secures first victory with Sudan as head coach
Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah marked his first win as Sudan’s head coach with a narrow victory over Chad in an international friendly this Tuesday.
Sudan had been grappling with a four-match winless streak but secured a 1-0 win against Chad at the King Fahd Stadium in Saudi Arabia.
The Desert Hawks clinched the decisive goal in the 30th minute, signifying a significant triumph for Appiah’s squad following a 1-1 draw against Tanzania in his debut match.

Recently appointed as Sudan’s head coach, the former Black Stars coach is on a three-year contract, with the primary aim of reinvigorating football in the Northeast African nation.
He is joined by fellow Ghanaians Ignatius Osei Fosu, the former coach of Techiman Eleven Wonders and Dreams FC, along with ex-Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, who serves as the goalkeeper’s trainer.
Sudan is focused on World Cup 2026 qualification, with crucial matches against Togo and DR Congo slated for next month.
