Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak in Democracy Cup

Two of Ghana’s top clubs, Hearts of Oak and Kotoko renewed hostilities in yet another thrilling encounter in the Democracy Cup.

 



The two sides commemorating three decades of legislature’s democracy gave fans their money’s worth in the fixture that came off at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Kotoko in the off-season severed ties with over twenty players but still went on to impose their superiority over their host beating them  2-1. 

Hearts of Oak didn’t overhaul their squad like their regional rivals, they acquired Nations FC duo, Asamoah Boateng Afriyie and Michael Awuah Mensah to complement their fold ahead of the new season.

The Porcupine Warriors started the game on the front foot, creating a myriad of chances in the first which, was rewarded with a penalty converted by Justice Blay.

Hearts of Oak newbie Asamoah Boateng Afriyie equalized in the 47th minute of the game. Still, the exciting Pater Amidu Acquah was on hand to gift his side the massive winner Pater Amidu Acquah as his curler beat Kwesi Nketia in the post for the Phobians.

The victory saw Kotoko beat their bitter rivals, Hearts three times in a single calendar season.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary select side made light work of the former Black Stars legends as they walked away with a 3-1 victory at the end of game proceedings.
