The Ghana Football Association are still in talks with talented Dutch-born Ghanaian, Jeremie Frimpong. The Bayern Leverkusen player has been a big topic as Ghana tries to convince him to join the Black Stars ahead of the Qatar 2022 world cup.
The fullback received a call-up from Dutch coach, Louis Van Gaal earlier this year but is still eligible to switch to play for Ghana. The Ghana FA has tried several times to get him committed to the Black Stars but all attempts have failed. Talks continue to happen between Frimpong and the Ghana Fa as he was snubbed by Van Gaal in the recent Dutch team selection.
He was very impressive for the Dutch U21 team that defeated Belgium on Saturday. He continued to thrive in a 3-5-2 system. Renowned transfer expert, Fabrizio tweeted that:
“Ghana are now really pushing to have Bayern Leverkusen fullback Jeremy Frimpong in the Black Stars as they did with Tariq Lamptey- the final decision is up to the player.” (Fabrizio Romano via Twitter)
Should he join, he will join the rising number of Ghanaian-born players who have decided to play for Black stars after playing for other nations. Notable among the players are Tariq Lamptey, Patrick Pfeiffer, Stephen Ambrosio, and Inaki Williams. The Black Stars are hoping to impress at the World cup after missing out on the last world cup. Coach Otto Addo and the technical team qualified after securing a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the playoffs.
