Idrissu Baba: The Rising Jewel
The European season is nearing its completion like every other transfer window clubs dip into their financial reserve and sign prospective players that can help them push their objectives over the line in the interim or the foreseeable future.
One player that seems to have garnered lots of interest since his breakthrough with Spanish based club Real Mallorca is Ghana’s Iddris Baba.
Baba has impressively stared 30 out of 33 La Liga games this season enjoying 1,408 touches of the ball bettered by Salva Sevilla’s 1432 touches.
Inasmuch as he has won 40 tackles, made 32 blocks, and 35 interceptions his passes are admirable for any side that is keen on playing possessive and retention football with 93 progressive passes, six passes into the penalty area to his credit in as many games for his side.
However, he likes to keep things simple, tidy giving the back four that needed to be shielded whenever the opposition is on the attack.
It’s no doubt that he has drawn comparisons to Ghanaian legendary midfield maestro Michael “The Bison” Essien and in recent times Thomas Partey, who is bound to English Premier League outfit, Arsenal barring any last-minute changes.
At 24 years, it’s fair to say that, the Ghanaian international who has one national team appearance to his portfolio has several aspects of his game that needs improvement, so far what he has shown on the pitch in the last two seasons is a testament that per the right tutoring at a progressive club he will break barriers and carve a niche for himself in the heart of midfield for several years to come.
