“I wasn’t respected” – Alfred Duncan on BlackStars retirement

Former Ghana international Alfred Duncan has disclosed the reason that led is retirement from the BlackStars. 

 



Duncan hanged his boots in 2019 at the height of his career which shocked a lot of people wondering why he decided to take that bold initiative to retire from national team duties.

Speaking in an interview with Accra based Sporty FM, he revealed that he wasn’t respected by the handlers of the national team.

“With the national team, it was complicated because it was my decision to quit. I wasn’t getting the respect I think I deserved,”

“For a player like me, when I got to the peak of my career, I thought I deserved more respect, which I wasn’t getting enough. I felt it was best to step aside for the young ones or those they believed were right for the team to have the chance to play.”

Duncan currently plies his trade with Venezia in the Serie A having played for Inter Milan, Sassuolo, Fiorentina.

The 32-year made his international bow with the BlackStars in a 2016 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Mozambique. He earned made nine appearances for the team.
