Godson Awako encourages young players
Accra Great Olympics deputy captain Gladson Awako has encouraged young lads to aspire to greater heights in their careers in order to build a concrete legacy, so as to reap the financial dividends that come with it at the end of their careers.
The experienced midfielder believes players have themselves to blame if they don’t train hard, listen to instructions and become disciplined in order for them to secure moves abroad because playing in the local league isn’t lucrative enough to boast a player up financially after drawing the curtains on his playing career.
In a recent interview with Accra based Asempa FM, he lamented about the meager salaries players receive and other financial burdens placed on them by their dependents.
“If someone claims, that you can play your career here in Ghana, succeed and enjoy life in the future, it is never true,” he said.
“It’s either you get the chance to be in any of the national teams (then that’s cool)”
“How much do they even pay us as signing-on fees, so if someone says you can play here and be very comfortable, take very good care of your kids and your family, it’s flawed”.
Gladson Awako currently plays with one of the traditional clubs of the country, Accra Great Olympics, after playing with Heart of Lions, Berekum Chelsea before a move to DR Congolese giants TP Mazembe.
