“Mubarak Wakaso” is the trending number one topic on Twitter after the midfielder was included in the last Ghana Black Stars squad for the AFCON Qualifiers and 4-Nation tournament in Japan.
Many Ghanaians were surprised to see Mubarak Wakaso on the squad list on Thursday morning, considering the player has been inactive in the football scene for several months.
Wakaso missed the last AFCON through injury and hasn’t played since the start of the year.
It’s either we’re evolving as a national team or not. Find it quite strange calling up a 31-year-old Wakaso, who has been quite inactive. Especially when there are much younger options in that position.

Mubarak Wakaso has not kicked a ball in any recognized competition in over 160+ days. pic.twitter.com/IK5fOfVHQ7

Mubarak Wakaso is trending #1 in Ghana.
My thoughts are simple: he – and other players injured on national team duty – are owed a debt of honour to help them get back to form.
Terms and conditions apply, of course. pic.twitter.com/tyXLlJvpYU

Mubarak Wakaso missed the World Cup Qualifiers against Nigeria but will be making his return next month when Ghana face Madagascar and Central African Republic.
