Ghana Black Maidens will not be in the next FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after losing 4-2 on penalties against Morocco.
Morocco U17 scored two goals to level the 2-0 scoreline from the first leg and sent the game to penalties where the Black Maidens suffered a 4-2 defeat.
Before the game, reports from the Black Maidens camp suggest they were treated unfairly when they arrived in Morocco; four players tested positive for covid, and they went through unusual ‘gender checks’ in Morocco and were forced to sit outside the dressing room.
The defeat ends Ghana’s historic streak of qualifying for every U17 Women’s World Cup since the maiden edition in 2008.
