Ghana Premier League: Match Week 15 Review

Ghana Premier League lovers were treated with lots of love on Friday as a late kickoff to usher other matches of the weekend in the ongoing season was played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

To kick-start this weekend’s fixtures, Legon Cities were at home to Medeama SC. Both sides had a sole objective of winning the tie as such the away side were the first to make their intentions really known as they began the early exchanges creating a plethora of chances but failed to utilize, once Prince Agyemang was teed up by a teammate he didn’t disappoint scoring from close range in the 12 minutes before adding the clubs second goal marking his 10th and 11th goals in the ongoing league season. The win lifts them to the 1st on the log with 30 points damping Legon Cities with 16 points.

The top liner of match week 15 failed to produce any match-winner as Bechem welcomed fellow competitors Aduana Stars to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. Both clubs will be highly disappointed by the scoreline knowing that the three points was there for the taking. Lots of chances were created by them but it ended in a bore draw. The draw leaves Bechem and Aduana occupying 8th and 2nd positions respectively.

In other games that were played, Berekum Chelsea were left gnashing their teeth as they fell flat and hard at home to WAFA by 2-1. Ibrahim Abubakar and Eric Asamany were on the score sheet with a consolation from Stephen Amankonah. The home side were on a high after winning their midweek clash at home but the away side on the back of losing a midweek fixture needed to get their season back on track, which they lived up to expect much to the delight of Headacoah Prosper Narteh and his fans. The results see them with 22 points and 7th on the log whiles Berekum Chelsea will maintain their 3rd position but 4 points adrift current leaders Medeama.

The Ohene Ameyaw Park saw, home side Eleven Wonders failing to capitalize on their home court advantage when they drew 1-1 with visiting Ebusua Dwarfs. Sulley Ibrahim shot the home side in front to send the fans into a frenzy but the away side kept probing and creating multiple chances with paid off much to the happiness of the traveling fans. Adams Moro pulled the away side level. In the end, both sides had to share the spoils, Interestingly, Eleven Wonders are 11th on the log whiles Ebusua Dwarfs are battling relegation.

The fine form of Elmina Sharks under Yaw Acheampong needs plaudits as they continued their impressive streak dispatching struggling Dreams FC at the Ndoum Stadium. A brace from Augustine Owusu was enough to secure the points for the Sharks, a consolation from Suleman Mohammed was not enough for the “Still Believe boys”, who are yet to lose a game in their last six outings in the league, whiles Dreams FC are still battling to get things going their way, this loss sees them drop to 13th on the log with 16 points.

On the back of losing away to Samuel Boadu’s Medeama, Accra Great Olympics responded in fantastic fashion posting a 2-1  victory over city rivals Liberty Professionals in the derby at the Accra Sports Stadium. Both sides had lost their prior match, Olympics were heavily battered by Hearts of Oak in midweek and needed to wake up from their slumber whiles Liberty narrowly lost at home to Inter Allies. An Elvis Kyei-Baffour penalty was not enough to cancel out goals from Michael Quaye and Razak Yusif. This win buoys Olympics to 12th on the log with 17 points to Liberty’s 16 points.

A week of double trouble for Obuasi based Ashanti Gold didn’t deter Thomas Duah and his charges as they travel far away to Tarkwa to pickup 3 maximum points from the den of Karela United. Karela shot ahead through Diawisie Taylor before late goals from Benedict Webona and Ibrahim Sameed saw the away side pick up all points back to Obuasi. The results see them cede their 5th position to Elmina Sharks as they lie 6th Karela will wonder hit them as they are still trying to pitch results their way scrabbling with relegation as things stand.
