Ghana Premier League: Match Week 11 Review

GPL Match Preview and Prediction: Hearts to redeem shattering image by beating Dreams FC

Ghana Premier League: Match Week 11 Review

The midweek phase of Ghana Premier League match week 11 didn’t disappoint as clubs keenly contested this afternoon, most home teams gave their supporters their money’s worth but others flattered to deceive sending their fans home with spots of sadness on their faces.

Eleven Wonders saw their home dominance halted as they shared the spoils with WAFA. They failed to continue their streak of winning twice out three matches they had battled the away side as well as their home advantage. Musa Sule scored first for the host before Eric Asamany drew the away side parity later on in the game. Both sides had to settle for a point each, thus Eleven Wonders moving to 12th with 14 points whiles the away side occupy the 7th spot with 16 points.

Obuasi based Ashanti Gold maintain their spot at the summit of the table after beating Dawu outfit Dreams FC by a solitary Ibrahim Abubakari own goal. Dreams may feel hurt considering how gallantly they matches the miners in all departments of the game. It was a game looking like ending in a draw but a mistimed kick from Ibrahim Abubakari ended up in his net gifting the home side the victory on the day. Dreams FC drop to 10th on the log with 14 points.

The top liner of this midweek happened at the infamous Nana Agyemang Badu Park, where two former champions of the Ghana Premier League locked horns. Both sides were poised for this match action but the home side proved their mettle against the Porcupine Warriors through a Samuel Bioh goal. The home side dominated the early exchanges before the away side grew in confidence creating multiple chances but failed to convert. This win sees Aduana reclaim their second spot at the expense of Kotoko who drop to 4th with 18 points after 11 matches in the ongoing domestic league.

To beat former league leaders, Berekum Chelsea at home may be considered a fluke but to travel far away Medeama SC,Tarkwa and to return to Elmina unscathed is a big achievement, and to top it up with a home victory in a regional derby is more sweeter than the berry. A Benjamin Bernard Boateng goal marking his 7th in 11 matches helped the Sharks to the finish line boasting them up to 5th in 17 points. These triple wins have boasted them up to 11th with 14 points as whiles Ebusua Dwarfs languish at the bottom with 10 points.

Inter Allies stun Berekum Chelsea at home

Inter Allies welcomed Samuel Boadu’s men to town this midweek. On the back of beating Berekum Chelsea, this was one of the most anticipated duels considering the attacking firepower both sides possessed. The match didn’t disappoint as two of the country’s deadliest goal scorers Victorien Adebayor and Prince Opoku Agyemang were both on the score sheet but the Tarkwa based side came out victorious winning by 2-1. Kofi Babil was on the score sheet for the away side as well pushing them to 3rd with 20 points unlike Inter Allies dropping to 9th at the moment.

Karela United and Accra Hearts of Oak played out a goalless draw at the Akoon Community Park. Karela’s last five games (LDLWL) had been nothing short of dismal picking just a win,a lose to Ebusua Dwarfs was fresh on their minds. With Hearts of Oak coming to town, the home side needed to pick up maximum points to lift themselves up the table but it didn’t happen as planned as the match ended with no goals for either sides. Hearts have picked up 9 points from 6 away matches unlike playing at home. Karela are battling relegation, 17th with 10 points.

Accra Great Olympics suffered another home defeat on Thursday as they failed to stop Berekum Chelsea. The away team stood their ground to snatch a 1-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium thanks to a second-half free-kick from Richard Kisi Boateng.

Legon Cities shared spoils with King Faisal in Obuasi, both teams settled for a 1-1 draw. King Faisal are currently at the bottom of the table whiles Legon Cities are two places above the relegation zone.
