Ghana PL: Matches of the week review and predictions

ghana

After several months of football activity in the country, Ghana, we are finally edging towards the business end of the season.

The Dawu park will see Inter Allies welcome fellow strugglers Liberty Professionals.

The home side has been dismal all season with glaring problems, they lie 18th on the log with 26 points largely, picking 23 points playing at home and a win in their last five games.

Liberty Professionals on the other hand have had their fair share of the cake, a position above their weekend opponents with 32 points, picking 8 points away from home. On the back of losing by a heavy margin to AshGold, a week ago, they will be hoping for a much better result to appease their fans and soften their plight in the league. Abraham Wayo, Kwame Karikari have combined efforts to score 12 goals but that hasn’t helped matters.

Inter Allies hold the advantage when it comes to matches between the pair, having won 6 out 13 fixtures and drawing two, they will look to get one over the Scientific Soccer lads considering their earlier clash ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

Predictions: Inter Allies 3-1 Liberty Professionals

AshGold are beaming with supreme confidence after thrashing Liberty Professionals away from home. This weekend, they have Prosper Ogun’s WAFA to deal with knowing well these lads are tough customers who could turn the screws at their pleasure.

The Aboakese sit 9th on the log with 40 points, a position they will look to improve over WAFA having picked 28 points by way of playing at home. David Sandan, Yaw Annor has been the primary source of goals since the departure of Hans Kwoffie to Legon Cities earlier in the season, for WAFA playing away from home has earned them 12 points aiding them to 6th on the log with 46 points.

Augustine Boakye, J.Torsutsey, Lawrence Agyekum have assumed immense responsibility at the club since the departure of Daniel Lomotey, who used to be the arrowhead of the side’s goals.

AshGold have edged WAFA  on 5 separate occasions out of 11 with the remainder ending in draws.

Predictions: AshGold 2-1 WAFA

Bechem United started the season brightly swapping positions at the summit of the table with Karela United but these days, the story has changed, as they occupy the 12 positions with 37 points, a position they wouldn’t be proud of, knowing their ambitions of a top-six finish but all that is not lost, as a better result against Medeama SC at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, could set the tone for an admirable finish should other competing results sway in their favor.

Medeama SC touted as favorites for the league crumbled under pressure and peeled off the apex of the league leaving the spot for Hearts and Kotoko to fight it out. They lie 5th on the table with 27 points, two wins from their last 5 have clearly not done them any good. The Mauve and Yellows have picked 13 points playing away from home but that could change with a better performance against Bechem United.

Predictions: Bechem United 2-0 Medeama SC

We left the best for the last. It’s the grandmasters of Ghana Football, Accra Hearts of Oak facing off with their bitter rivals, Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The duo occupies the summit of the table with 56 points in a match both will eagerly want to get a win over the line to complement their title push.

The home side has enjoyed a sweet vein off from under Samuel Boadu, his lads have picked 4 wins out of five, bar Dreams FC, they have the best home record 36 points an admirable feat considering lots of factors swayed against them earlier in the season.

Kotoko, record holders of the league will look to boost their title ambitions with a win over Hearts, they are a better team when they play away from home notching 26 points which will make them tough customers for Phobia to crack.

This encounter has loads riding on it, hopefully, it lives up to its billing.

Predictions: Hearts of Oak 2-1 Kotoko
