Ghana Football Association’s former vice president, Fred Pappoe, who ran for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association in 2019, has distanced himself from running for the top job in 2023.
According to the experienced football figurehead campaigning for the top position in football is dictated by money.
He further stated that this trend is not only found in football circles but churches, which often stifles the people with ideas who want to positively impact the dispensations they find themselves.
He remarked that, “I think all elections in Ghana are monetized, sadly. You can hardly think of any elections in Ghana that are not monetized,”
“I am sure even in churches. All elections are monetized in one way or the other or materialized. If they don’t give you money, there might be some material exchange or some expectation of material or financial after or in case your candidacy succeeds,”

“The financial, there were too many people who came up with all manner of gifts and support for my campaign so the financing was not a problem,”
“So it was not the matter of me not having money, it’s a matter of me deciding to spend my money that way,”
“I could have used the money to do that [influence delegates to vote for me], but I didn’t see any reason to spend my money on anybody,” he told JoyPrime
In the 2019 elections that ultimately saw Kurt Okraku elected GFA President ahead of George Afriyie, Fred Pappoe, and others, the latter only garnered 6 out of the 124 votes cast.
