The attacker’s impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League earned him his first national team call-up but he was omitted from the final squad.
He expressed how the drop affected his focus and game in the Ghana Premier League.
“When they first called me I was happy and proud because it was a sign that they’ve seen my hard work but when my name was omitted, I lost focus but the Coach and the CEO helped me a lot by consoling me and telling me to believe in myself.”
The reds were awarded two penalties which were all missed by their leading striker, he explained the fallout from the national team caused those spot-kick misses
“I missed the last two penalties because I had lost focus following my omission from the Cameroon squad. And I wasn’t stable during that moment in the game against Aduana and Berekum Chelsea.”
Etouga is the league’s top scorer with 19 goals and is on track to break Ismahel Addo’s record of scoring the most goals (22) in a single season.
