George Afriyie, the former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced his candidacy for the upcoming 2023 presidential elections.
After much speculation and anticipation, Afriyie revealed his intention to lead Ghana’s football governing body on Sunday, which represents a significant development in the upcoming elections.
Afriyie stated the need to move beyond repeated mistakes and adopt a practical approach to problem-solving. In these challenging times, he aims to be a symbol of hope, believing in the great potential of Ghana Football to overcome obstacles.

He envisions a future where Ghana’s national teams consistently compete at the highest level, local clubs and the league thrive, and young talents receive the opportunities they deserve.
Having previously served as Vice President from 2015 to 2018, Afriyie is well-acquainted with the complexities of Ghanaian football administration.
His decision to run for the GFA presidency follows his defeat to the current president, Kurt Okraku, in the 2019 elections.
