Don’t rush Ghana PL autonomy – Kojo Fianoo

Ghana League Clubs Association chairman Kudjoe Fianoo has implored GFA to take ample time in finalizing plans on making the Premier League autonomous.

Last week, the FA announced a special task committee mandated to advise the Executive Committee on the autonomy of the league, the format, the modalities, start date, and rulebook, among other parameters.

However, the Chairman is calling for broader and wider consultation with all relevant decision making stakeholders before making its decision to change the status of the Premier League to full autonomy.

”We need to take a look at our circumstances first,” the former AshantiGold CEO told Kumasi-based Fox FM.

”We should not say some countries like the United Kingdom are practicing it so we are also to do so. We should think of our circumstances for example, finances.

”If full autonomy is good for us, why not? But if we can also start it gradually that will be okay.

”What I am hoping is that the current FA will not turn around to kill the dream that has been harbored some years ago.”

In the early 2000s, Fianoo was part of a three-man GHALCA delegation team that traveled to South Africa to study the PSL and made recommendations.

The Ghana Premier League is on break, as it’s resumption or cancelation is currently on unknown by stakeholders.

Ghana has so far recorded, 4700 cases, 474 recoveries, 22 deaths.
