Clubs need more than sponsorship deals – Fred Moore
In a little over two months football clubs all over the world have been adversely affected by the novel pandemic, coronavirus, which has caused lots of harm than good.
Ghanaian clubs like the rest of the world have had to adopt measures in a bid to mitigate the financial hurdles they are going through.
This has however necessitated Managing Director of Hearts of Oak, Frederick Moore to suggest that clubs need multiple sources of revenue to augment their growing financial burdens.
Since the inception of this virus, lots of sporting related activities have been placed on hold, with most clubs solely dependent on sponsorships and gate proceeds.
In the absence of football, gate proceeds are no longer available for clubs to rely on but for sponsorship, which he adds that no club can survive on that.
In a recent interview with Accra based, Happy FM he shared his opinion on the impact of Covid-19 on clubs financially as well as other areas of operation.
“Since there will be no gate proceeds for the clubs, I think clubs will continue to suffer from the pandemic”
“In terms of revenue, Hearts of Oka have lost about 2/3 or more. I don’t think there is a club in Ghana that can survive mainly on sponsorship”
Clubs are looking towards the Football Association for financial assistance to help mitigate their heavy financial woes amidst the pandemic.
Some countries(Kenya, Ethiopia, Congo, and others) have recently canceled their leagues, it remains to be seen if Ghana would follow in that direction.
