Chris Hughton apologizes following Ghana’s heavy defeat to the USA
Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, issued a heartfelt apology and assumed full accountability for the underwhelming performance of the Black Stars following their humbling 4-0 loss to the United States in an international friendly.
Giovanni Reyna secured a brace, while Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun also found the back of the net in the game held at the GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hughton, who had previously vowed to address the issues that led to the team’s 2-0 loss against Mexico, once again witnessed a challenging start as the USA dominated the match.

Despite subsequent efforts to regain control, the Black Stars managed just one shot on target throughout the game.
In response to inquiries following the 4-0 defeat to the USA, Chris Hughton spoke candidly, extending his apologies for the outcome and acknowledging his responsibility in the matter.
“I’m very sorry, and I take responsibility for the poor performance against the USA,” Hughton expressed, underscoring his commitment to enhancing the team’s performance and striving for a brighter future.
He then reaffirmed his confidence in his suitability for the role, stating, “If you ask me if I feel like I’m the right person for this job, the answer is yes.” Hughton appears resolute in addressing the team’s deficiencies and constructing a more resilient and consistent Black Stars for the future.
