CF Montreal have signed Ghanaian attacker, Kwadwo ‘Mahala’ Opoku from LAFC.
Kwadwo ‘Opoku’ Mahala, has transferred from Major League Soccer champions Los Angeles FC to CF Montreal.
The 21-year-old has joined the Canadian team in exchange for $1,650,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money and $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money.
In addition, CF Montreal received $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money from LAFC in return for a 2023 international roster spot.

CF Montreal’s Vice-President and Chief Sporting Officer, Olivier Renard, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, stating that Opoku is a young player with valuable experience in the league.
Renard mentioned Opoku’s contribution as a decisive player in LAFC’s MLS Cup victory last year, highlighting his speed and one-on-one abilities.
He believes that Opoku’s profile will bring something different to the team and fill a gap that existed in their squad. Renard is confident that Opoku will continue to develop and progress with CF Montreal.
Opoku, who previously played for the Ghana U17 team, departs Los Angeles after playing a key role in helping LAFC win the 2022 MLS Cup.
He notably scored in the Western Conference final against Austin FC. Opoku made a total of 60 regular season appearances for LAFC before shining in the playoffs last year. He originally moved to the United States from the Attram De Visser Academy in Ghana.
