Asante Kotoko respond to Referee bribery allegations
Kotoko have disassociated themselves from rumors linking them to an alleged act of bribery before the match against Ashgold on Sunday.
In a press statement on Thursday, the club insisted on their innocence as it exonerated its officials from indulging in any such an act.
Kotoko lost 1-0 at Ashgold in the Special Competition, and audio has emerged days later on which someone is heard trying to financially induce a supposed referee.
A section of the media has dragged Kotoko into the said act as it links the accuser to a known Kotoko fan named Sheshela.
“The Executive Chairman and Management wish to state unequivocally that neither the Executive Chairman nor any official of the club has engaged in such activities and neither has the said Sheshela been contracted to engage in the act for and on behalf of the club,” said the statement from the Communications Department of the club.
The statement said the club has been left shocked and dismayed by the development.
“The Executive Chairman and Management and Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have received with shock and dismay news circulating in the news circles of an alleged bribery scandal involving one Sheshela and being linked to the club,” it said.
