Asante Kotoko have been drawn against Cameroon Elite One League champions Coton Sports in the playoff round of the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup.
This comes after the 2nd/16 round draw by organisers of the continent’s second-tier interclub championship in Cairo a while ago.
Asante Kotoko were paired against Cameroon club in the preliminary round, but earned a walkover following the FECAFOOT’s failure to name a team for the competition.
The Porcupine Warriors, who went on to eliminate Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks in the first round, have again drawn another Cameroonian opponent in the 2018 league champions.
Asante Kotoko aim to reach the group stage of the competition, and coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor’s quest of leading his troops to that target faces a challenge from the fellow West African club who are record winners of the country’s domestic league with 15 titles.
Coton Sports started off in the Champions League, but dropped at the last elimination round of the top tier competition after a 3-2 aggregate loss to El Ismaily of Egypt.
The playoff will be staged over two legs and Asante Kotoko play away first, between January 11 and 13, 2019, and complete the tie in Kumasi between January 18 and 20, 2019.
