AFCON 2025Q: Kwasi Appiah steps down as Exco member temporarily following CAF directive

Sudan coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped down from his role as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following a directive from the CAF.

 



The former Black Stars coach currently serves as the coach of Sudan and an Exco member of the Ghana Football Association was the subject of intense media discussion about a possible conflict of interest but that story died off after some days.

Before the crucial game between Ghana and Sudan, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) issued a letter asking the Sudan coach to relinquish his position on the executive council.

In response to CAF’s letter, Kwesi Appiah and his advisors have thought it wise for him to “temporarily step down” from one of his roles.

Sudan will play Ghana in Accra on Thursday, October 10, and five days later the second leg in Sudan in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
